"My kid loves to turn it over and use it as a bridge for cars to drive over or park cars underneath. Quality is good! 10/10!"

- Shelby

One wooden board. Endless ways to play.

The Ombak Balance Board is made from solid rubberwood for open-ended movement play. It grows with your child from 6 months all the way to 6 years and beyond.

Put it in the room and watch what happens.

They will rock it. Flip it. Sit inside it. Lay a plank across it and call it a bridge. Spin on it. Park their cars underneath it.

And they will do all of this without asking you for anything.

That quiet, focused stretch of play is not a happy accident. It is your child doing something really important: building their body, solving problems, and figuring out what they are capable of. All on their own terms.

You just gave them the space to do it.

Movement is not a break from learning. It is how early learning happens.

Children have two sensory systems that develop long before reading or counting ever begins.

The first is the vestibular system, located in the inner ear. It processes balance, spatial awareness, and movement through space. The second is the proprioceptive system. It tells the body where it is and how much force it is using at any given moment.

Both systems are trained through physical challenge: rocking, tilting, shifting weight, catching yourself before you fall. A balance board engages both at the same time, in a way a flat surface simply cannot.

Research in sensory integration, built on the foundational work of occupational therapist A. Jean Ayres, consistently links adequate vestibular and proprioceptive input in early childhood to better emotional regulation, improved focus, and stronger body confidence as children grow. Adele Diamond's research on executive function development further connects movement-rich play environments to stronger self-regulation in children.

It is giving their nervous system the input it is looking for, through play, on their own terms.

The Ombak works across different stages.

If your child is under 18 months, they will use it as a rocker and a sensory surface. Supervised, low to the ground, and endlessly interesting.

If your child is a toddler navigating big physical energy indoors, especially in our current environment where outdoor time is limited, this gives that energy somewhere to go.

If you are trying to reduce plastic toys and shift toward open-ended, Montessori-aligned play materials, this is one of the highest-utility pieces you can add to a play space.

If you have multiple children, the Ombak serves all of them differently at the same time. One rocks. One uses it as a ramp. One may sit on it and read.

You might ask:

"Is it safe for young children?" The Ombak sits low to the ground. At its highest point, the arc is 18cm. When a child loses their balance, they are not falling far. The 50kg weight limit means an adult can sit in or on it alongside a child if needed. We recommend supervision for children under 24 months, as you would with any physical play.

"My child is only 6 months. Is it too early?" At 6 months, a child is not balancing independently on the board. They are placed in the curve, supported by a caregiver, and experiencing the gentle rocking motion. That vestibular input is meaningful even at that age. Many families use it as a rocker in the early months, then watch the play evolve completely by 18 months. When flipped over, it is the perfect height as a play surface for a 6 month old who is just starting to sit. The toys can be placed at chest level rather than on the floor.

"RM280 feels like a lot for one toy." The Ombak is not a single-use toy with a 6-month window. It is used differently at 8 months, at 2 years, at 4 years, and at 6 years. The 50kg weight limit means older children and adults can use it for yoga, stretching, and core work. Divided across the years of actual use, the cost per day is low. It also does not break, does not need batteries, and does not need to be replaced.

"Will it get scratched or damaged?" Rubberwood is hard and dense. It withstands the kind of daily use that wooden toys get in a real home. Scratches and marks that come with use do not affect structural integrity.

FAQ

What age is the Ombak for? 6 months to 6 years is the primary range. In practice, children continue using it well past 6 years, and the 50kg weight limit means adults use it too. It does not have an expiry point.

Can it be used on tiles? Yes. If you are concerned about sliding, a rubber mat or play mat underneath the board adds grip. Many families use it directly on tiles without issue.

How do I clean it? Wipe with a damp cloth. Do not soak or submerge in water. If there is a spill, wipe dry immediately.

Does it come assembled? Yes. It arrives ready to use.

What is the warranty? 2 years from date of purchase.

Is this Montessori-aligned? The Ombak reflects Montessori principles in that it is open-ended, invites independent exploration, and develops gross motor skills during the sensitive period for movement. It is not a product endorsed by any Montessori institution, but it is used in Montessori home environments and classrooms.

The Ombak Balance Board is a piece of solid wood construction with a curve in it. What your child does with that is entirely up to them.

That is the point.

If you are building a home where your child can move freely, play independently, and grow into their own body, the Ombak belongs there.

With two boys under 4 in the house I was looking for a safe way to keep them involved and the Rimba tower does just that. Whether they are helping me chop vegetables, mix batter or even just wash their hands, the learning tower helps them stay part of the action, which is really important for us as a family. It's extremely study and well built, and as they both like to climb in and out, I have no worries about it toppling over. I would definitely recommend it!
